K-9 Assists in California DUI Arrest

Service Dog.jpgFor one California DUI defendant, the dog is no longer man's best friend. According to KSYB.com, a man who fled the scene of a recent California DUI-related accident was ultimately caught by a police K-9 dog.

The search for the DUI suspect was initiated after the man crashed his vehicle near Avila Beach Drive and northbound Highway 101 around 11:30 p.m. The Sheriff's Bomb Squad happened to be in the area and approached the man after the crash. As they approached, the man took off into a riverbed that ran parallel to the highway.

After a short time, an Arroyo Grande Police Department K9 dog was able to spot the suspect and he was brought into custody. He was subsequently arrested for California DUI hit and run.

Drivers should never leave the scene of a California DUI accident. Although this may seem like common sense, the prospect of a California DUI arrest sometimes causes people to panic and do things they will later regret. However, if you are arrested for both a California DUI and a hit and run, you face enhanced penalties, including a license suspension, higher monetary fines, and longer potential jail time.

If you are charged with California DUI hit and run, it is imperative to consult with an experienced California DUI defense attorney who can help you determine your legal options.
