Fresno officer injured at DUI checkpoint

The Fresno Police Department was conducting a DUI checkpoint on Monday night when allegedly Richard Caldwell pulled up to the checkpoint and after an officer suspected a cup to have alcohol beverages in it reached in to his truck, sped off injuring the officer. Caldwell was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Fresno. It is suspected that the Toyota Tundra Caldwell was driving could have been stolen and that this incident was a violation of his parole. Caldwell faces charges of hit and run on a police officer in addition to a Fresno DUI charge. 2010 has become known as the year of the checkpoint. Highway Patrol and local police departments have teamed up to enforce sobriety checkpoints across the state. It is important that if you are forced to stop at a DUI checkpoint, you remain calm. A Fresno DUI charge carries a county jail sentence or if the circumstances are serious, a state prison sentence. No matter what the circumstances of your Fresno drunk driving incident, you need to contact a qualified DUI lawyer. Call our knowledgeable Fresno DUI attorneys today.
