Orange County DUI suspect sentenced to 9 years in prison

On January 10 at around 2:00 am, Matthew Van McDaniel crashed his Mercedes-Benz S550 into a tree at the James Musick Correctional Facility in Irvine. When Orange County Sheriffs tried to detain McDaniel he punched one in the face. McDaniel pleaded guilty to 2 felonies including aggravated assault on an officer and misdemeanor DUI charges. His nine year prison sentence is a negotiated plea deal with the Orange County District Attorney's office. New DUI laws taking effect July 1

If you are convicted of driving under the influence in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Alameda or Tulare counties after July 1 you will have to install an ignition interlock device on your car. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill into law stating his hopes to deter driving under the influence. Those convicted of first offense DUIs out of the pilot counties after July 1 will have to install a device which requires you to blow into a tube in order for the car to start. This test program is slated to last through 2015 and will be evaluated at that time. The cost of installing the ignition interlock device will be $75 or more with monthly maintenance fees of $50 or more. Most people will have to pay full cost with some exceptions for low income clients. If you have been arrested in one of the pilot counties you are likely going to be subject to this new law. The harsh ignition interlock requirement on first offenders is required for 5 months and for a second offender 12 months. Lake Forest DUI suspect arrested after crashing into two cars

Late last month at the corner of Rockfield Boulevard and El Toro Road Henry Roy Buzina, 66, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Orange County when officers alleged he crashed into two vehicles. Costa Mesa man charged with Orange County DUI

27-year-old Jeffrey Scott Marshall was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in Orange County late last month when his Infinity G35 struck a Ford F150 causing it to hit a pedestrian. The victim was taken to the Western Medical Center in Santa Ana after sustaining a head injury. The accident occurred at 12:11 am on the residential street of Placentia Avenue, north of 17th street. CHP Officer killed by teen in San Bernardino DUI crash

Barstow California Highway Patrol Officer Justin McGrory was struck and killed by 18 year old Rafael Garcia over the weekend. Garcia is charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment due to having a 12 year old passenger.
